German contemporary jazz ensemble Sameka, led by bassist Simon Zauels, channels the spirit of 1970s jazz fusion through electronic textures, cross-cultural influences, and a distinctly modern approach to composition and improvisation. Moving between intricate rhythmic structures and finely detailed sonic layers, the band has developed a bold and highly individual sound. Sameka was a finalist in the Future Sounds Competition at Leverkusen Jazz Days and has performed at major festivals including Jazzopen Stuttgart.

In recent years, Sameka has formed a close artistic partnership with Taiwan’s acclaimed Interestring Quartet, led by jazz violinist Wei-Chun Huang. Recognized as the first jazz string quartet in the Chinese-speaking world, the ensemble brings together jazz, pop, rock, Latin, and folk influences, with its original work earning multiple Golden Melody Awards and Golden Indie Music Awards.

Following a series of Taiwan tours between 2023 and 2025, the two ensembles continue to explore the possibilities of an expanded jazz format, bringing the energy of a jazz quintet into dialogue with the depth and colour of a string quartet.
