Led by Taiwanese pianist and composer Leon Hsu, the Leon Hsu Jazz Quartet brings together outstanding musicians whose artistic connections span Taiwan and New York. Centered on Hsu's original compositions, the quartet draws on the language of straight-ahead jazz while embracing contemporary influences, free improvisation, and a spirit of exploration. Their music is shaped by thoughtful writing, attentive listening, and the expressive interplay that lies at the heart of jazz.

A former member of the Taichung Jazz Festival Youth Jazz Orchestra, Hsu has continued to build his career in the United States as a performer and composer, and was commissioned to compose the theme music for the 2026 Taichung Jazz Festival. For this project, he reunites with two longtime collaborators from his years at the Eastman School of Music—New York-based saxophonist Jordan Lerner and drummer Ryan Barski—joined by Taiwanese bassist Yu-Chia Liu. Built on years of shared experience and mutual trust, the quartet brings together carefully crafted compositions and collective improvisation in performances that are intimate, responsive, and deeply connected.
