Since its inception, the Taichung Jazz Festival Youth Jazz Orchestra
has inspired young musicians to discover the exciting world of jazz.

expert instruction, ensemble training, and live performance opportunities, participants not only develop their musical skills but also experience the creative, open-minded, and endlessly expressive spirit of jazz.

In 2026, the Youth Jazz Orchestra will once again bring together talented students aged 12 to 18 from across Taiwan for an intensive seven-day training program. Led by accomplished professional musicians with extensive performance and teaching experience, the program introduces students to the foundations of jazz, its diverse musical styles, and the art of ensemble performance. Through hands-on learning, collaboration, and mentorship, participants will deepen their understanding of jazz while building confidence as musicians and performers.

This year’s program will culminate in four public performances, giving students the opportunity to take the stage and transform their learning into live musical expression. From a first improvisation and a first ensemble performance to a first experience performing before an audience, each appearance marks a meaningful milestone in a young musician’s artistic journey.

Over the years, many alumni have continued to pursue music studies and professional performance opportunities. Through the festival’s cherished “Homecoming” tradition, former members return to the stage to share their experiences, mentor new participants, and celebrate the community that helped shape them. Jazz is passed down through inspiration, collaboration, and the exchange of ideas across generations. The Youth Jazz Orchestra is where that journey begins.

As we follow in the footsteps of the giants who shaped jazz history, we also look forward to seeing a new generation of artists discover and share their own unique voices.
