Soulful singer Whirimako Black from New Zealand captivates audiences with her rich and emotive voice and is one of the country’s most iconic musicians. She skillfully blends Māori chanting, traditional melodies, and elements of jazz and soul to create a unique musical style. Whirimako has performed extensively across Europe, Asia, and the Pacific, receiving widespread acclaim.
Beyond the stage, she is dedicated to promoting the Māori language and music education, conducting workshops at multiple universities and deeply nurturing cultural heritage. In 2006, she was awarded the New Zealand Order of Merit for her outstanding contributions to Māori music and her international influence.
For this performance, she will collaborate with Taiwanese musicians Justin Lee and Andrew Salim, together interpreting jazz infused with rich ethnic flavors, offering Taichung audiences a fresh rhythmic experience.
