Tran Manh Tuan is Vietnam’s most prominent saxophonist and the first Vietnamese musician to receive a scholarship from Berklee College of Music in the United States. He began playing saxophone in 1979, blending traditional Vietnamese melodies with contemporary jazz vocabulary. To date, he has released 13 solo albums and performed on international stages across Europe, Russia, China, and beyond.
Having collaborated with legendary musicians such as Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter, Tuan is not only a performer but also a key promoter of jazz development in Vietnam—founding the Saigon Big Band and jazz clubs that serve as musical bridges between local and international scenes.
Making his debut performance in Taiwan, and marking the first appearance of a Vietnamese band at the Taichung Jazz Festival, he will lead the TMT Fusion Band. The ensemble combines saxophone with traditional Vietnamese instruments like the ceramic bell, moon lute, and Vietnamese zither, showcasing a captivating cross-cultural fusion and offering audiences a fresh Southeast Asian jazz perspective.
